Poliovirus was treated with fluorescamine and disrupted with sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS). The polypeptides were isolated by electrophoresis in a polyacrylamide gel (SDS-PAGE) and their amino acid compositions determined. The compositions of VP1, 2 and 3 were very similar but different from that of VP4.
