Calcium Sensitive and Other Mutants of Bacteriophage P2

G. Bertani, B. K. Choe and G. Lindahl

Department of Microbial Genetics, Karolinska Institutet, 104 01 Stockholm 60, Sweden

Several types of mutants variously affected by the concentration of calcium ions in the medium may be isolated from phage P2 (host: Escherichia coli). As compared with the wild type, the mutants may be more or less dependent on calcium for adsorption, more rapidly inactivated in the presence of calcium, or less prone to establish lysogeny at low calcium concentrations.

Received 23 January 1969; accepted 13 February 1969.
