Studies on the Regulation of {lambda} Bacteriophage in an Escherichia coli in vitro System

P. E. Allin*

Laboratoire d'Enzymologie Microbienne, CNRS, Gif-sur-Yvette, 91 France

A membranous cell-free system derived from Escherichia coli is described. When the system is primed with {lambda} bacteriophage DNA, the RNA synthesized by the system hybridizes specifically with {lambda} DNA. The primed system is also capable of synthesizing active phage lysozyme.
