Fig. 1. A39R does not influence VV plaque phenotype or growth characteristics in vitro. (a) B-SC-1 cells were infected with the indicated viruses and overlaid with MEM containing 2.5% FBS and 1.5% CMC. After 4 days cells were stained with 0.1% (w/v) crystal violet in 15% (v/v) ethanol. (b) Growth of COP and WR A39R recombinant viruses. B-SC-1 cells were infected with the indicated viruses at 0.01 p.f.u. per cell. At various times p.i., total virus infectivity was titrated by plaque assay on B-SC-1 cells. Results show the mean of duplicate experiments ± SEM.
