Decontamination of surgical instruments from prion proteins: in vitro studies on the detachment, destabilization and degradation of PrPSc bound to steel surfaces, by K. Lemmer, M. Mielke, G. Pauli and M. Beekes

Journal of General Virology vol. 85, part 12, pp. 3805 – 3816

An important technical specification was inadvertantly omitted from the second paragraph of the Methods section entitled 'In vitro carrier assay'. The third sentence of this paragraph should read as follows.

Subsequently, after neutralization of alkalic or acidic pH with HCl or NaOH, respectively, and inactivation of chlorine in NaOCl-containing samples with sodium thiosulphate, the cleaning solutions were either directly mixed 1 : 1 with 2× sample loading buffer and boiled for 5 min, or subjected to PK digestion.
