Erratum |
Our recent data show that the Nora virus may not be distributed as widely as we first reported. The low titre of Nora virus RNA that we detected in many Drosophila melanogaster stocks and Drosophila simulans is an artefact. We were misled by an unspecific PCR product of similar size and melting point to the virus-specific band. The Nora virus can only be verified with certainty in the limited number of fly stocks where it was detected at a high titre (105–1010 genomes per fly).
The main conclusions of the paper are not affected by this mistake: the Nora virus is a novel picorna-like virus, which can cause high-titre persistent infections in Drosophila without apparent pathological effects.
