Front cover illustration
Vero cell infected with a recombinant herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) that expresses the envelope glycoprotein B (gB) tagged with green fluorescent protein (GFP). This merged image shows spontaneous GFP fluorescence (green) and indirect immunofluorescence from an anti-glycoprotein D (gD) antibody and Texas red-labelled secondary antibodies (red). The high concentration and co-localization (yellow) of fluorescence arising from GFP-gB and indirectly from gD in the Golgi and at the cell surface suggest sites of virus assembly before budding. For more information, see the article on HSV-1 gB sorting in hippocampal neurons by C. Potel and others on pages 2613-2624 of this issue.
