The cover image is part of a side-view of an adenovirus 2 hexon trimer in space-filling representation. The image was first published 10 years ago by J. M. Weber and others in the January 1994 issue of Journal of General Virology, 75, 141-147. At that time authors of papers in JGV usually had to pay the full costs of colour reproduction in the Journal, which then would usually have been £800-£1000; not surprisingly, very few colour figures were printed. Costs of colour reproduction in JGV (as approved by the Editors) are now met by the publisher, Society for General Microbiology, as part of its charitable remit.
