Detection of hepatitis C virus NS3 protein in small intestine enterocytes of a chronically infected patient. Formalin-fixed and paraffin-embedded small intestinal biopsies from an HCV chronically infected patient were stained with an anti-NS3 mAb. Positive staining was observed in epithelial cells predominantly in the crypts of the jejunum, whilst the mucus-secreting cells were unlabelled. Image provided by Patrice André, INSERM, Lyon, France. See the article by Deforges et al. in this issue, pp. 2515-2523.
