Confocal visualization of syncytium formation in transfected human embryonic kidney 293T/17 cells expressing rubella virus (RV) protein E1. Cell surfaces were stained by binding of FITC-labelled ChX to the ganglioside GM1 (green). RV proteins were stained with mouse monoclonal antibody to E1 (red).
